We currently have school holiday dates for 2017 and 2018 listed. Scroll down to view.

Schools in Belgium exist as part of three communities – Flemish, French and German-speaking. Thus, school holidays are determined by the Ministries of the various communities.

  • Dutch : Flemish Ministry of Education
  • French : Education in the French Community
  • German : Ministry of Education of the German Community in Belgium

Despite each community having their own school system, the school holiday dates remain the same. School holidays in Belgium are divided into 5 periods – autumn, Christmas, Carnival, Easter or spring, Ascension and the summer holidays.

Holiday seasons in Belgium, especially the summer, is a prime time for families to travel within the country or to other European countries. Every year, the summer holidays occur from the beginning of July to the end of August.

The Ministry only determines school holiday dates for Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education. Higher education such as universities and polytechnic or vocational universities determine their own holidays.

The school holiday dates for school year 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 below are sourced from the Ministry’s website, so are considered the official dates. You can check the dates by scrolling down.
